POSITION TITLE: Christian Youth Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Church Council

EFFECTIVE DATE: 12/06/2024

POSITION STATUS: Part Time (~10 hours/week)

POSITION SUMMARY: Director of Christian Youth Program Coordinator oversees and directs all aspects of Christian Education for youth ministries and children’s ministries, and manages the development and growth of the Christian youth Education program at First Congregational Church UCC in Fremont. Through teaching, worship, word and example, the coordinator guides students in Christian faith and life. This position supports the spiritual formation of children and youth to ensure consistency, continuity, and relationships. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Takes ownership of the Christian Youth Education schedule, communicating with the Church Council to ensure proper planning. Attends Church Council meetings monthly as an ex-officio member, giving a detailed report on all Christian Educational activities. Identifies church members to assist in the completion of Christian Education duties including but not limited to teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Youth Group for students. Coordinates, promotes, enlists volunteers and provides leadership as needed for current special events including but not limited to: Sunday School Kick-off, Trunk or Treat, Christmas Pageant, 3rd Grade Student Bible presentation, Easter Egg Hunt, Celebration for Graduates, service projects, Camp Kaleo; and expand youth special activities. Regularly communicates with students, families, members, and church council through multiple and consistent methods throughout the year. Promotes the Christian youth education programs internally and externally. Analyzes member participation or changes in congregational emphasis to determine needs. Elicits input and feedback from all age levels to continuously meet needs and improve upon learning engagements, experiences, and events. Prepares budget and monitors expenses for all Christian youth Education programs and activities. Ensures safe church practices including but not limited to: volunteer background checks, driver license/insurance documentation for transportation of children, documented program registration processes, emergency contact information, parental permission, emergency response protocol education, providing partners for middle school, high school and collegiate volunteers, being present and serving as the on-site church staff resource during all Christian Education activities. Ensures children and youth feel included, valued, and heard in our faith family and have opportunities to be involved in worship and church activities. Sunday School (If applicable) Coordinates the Sunday School program to be inclusive of all ages (preschool, elementary, middle school, high school).Develops theme for programmatic year. Purchases/writes/revises curriculum and distributes to the Church Council and teachers well in advance of the start of the school year. Provides new teacher training/orientation and coordinates teacher appreciation. Gathers and maintains supplies and sets up classroom/s. Maintains roster and keeps attendance. Regularly communicates and collaborates with the Church Council, teachers and volunteers. Serves as a substitute for Sunday School teachers. Vacation Bible School Coordinates the VBS program to be inclusive of all ages (preschool, elementary, middle school, high school). Develops theme for the week. Purchases/writes/revises curriculum and distributes to the Church Council and volunteers well in advance of the start of VBS. Promotes and recruits internal and external participants well in advance of the start of VBS.Develops publicity tools including but not limited to: handouts, flyers, signage, community announcements and emails. Provides volunteer training/orientation.Gathers and maintains supplies and sets up meeting space. Coordinates and/or provides transportation when needed (carpooling, church van). Maintains roster and keeps attendance. Youth Group Develop and launch a Wednesday night youth group program for middle school and high school age students. Locates and distributes resources, such as curriculum, to enhance the effectiveness of educational programs for the youth group. Promotes and recruits internal and external participants well in advance of the start of Youth Group.Develops publicity tools including but not limited to: handouts, flyers, signage, community announcements and emails. Recruits, trains and guides adults to work with the middle and high school students. Schedules, oversees planning and execution of regular Youth Group nights or events. Gathers and maintains materials and sets up meeting space/s. Communicate regularly with parents, volunteers, youth and the Church Council. Coordinates and/or provides transportation when needed (carpooling, church van).

COMPENSATION: Market Competitive, negotiated based on skill and experience.
